Responsibilities

Assists the Charge Nurse in day-to-day recording of medical and administrative information in accordance with current federal and state regulations. Ensures medical records are maintained in an informative and descriptive manner.

  • Records medical and administrative information in accordance with community established documentation policies and procedures and in accordance with state regulations as directed by the nursing management.

  • Answers telephones, responds to call lights and delivers messages as appropriate.

  • Maintains a current list of emergency contacts for the assigned unit.

  • Assists in scheduling and coordinating transportation and communication for resident appointments.

  • Maintains all residents’ charts in proper sequence, assuring that all records are completed, including vital signs, weights, and heights. Informs supervisor of deficiencies and/or abnormal weight or vital signs immediately. Audits resident clinical records routinely noting deficiencies and/or discrepancies.

  • Reports all diet orders and/or diet order changes to the dining services department.

  • Audits Medication Administration Record and makes out requisitions from the lab book daily.

  • Mails, tracks, and receives telephone orders. Notifies physicians of tardiness of telephone orders. Processes telephone orders in clinical record after the nurse has reviewed and noted them.

  • Maintains all charges accrued by residents.

  • Orders, distributes and tracks all incontinence products and submits report to the Director, Clinical Services. Establishes PAR levels of medical supplies and assists with routine ordering. Orders and stocks office supplies on the nursing units.

  • Maintains structure, cleanliness and order on the nursing unit.

  • Works closely with nursing staff, physicians and residents’ families in order to provide the best care for the resident.

  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. At least one year of experience in a health care facility and knowledge of medical terminology.

Management/Decision MakingMakes standard and routine decisions based on detailed guidelines with little independent judgment. Problems are generally solved with clear, detailed guidelines or by reporting them to a supervisor.

Knowledge and SkillsHas a basic level of a skill and can follow written or verbal instructions. Has basic technical skills to complete a few repetitive and well-defined duties. Has a basic knowledge of the organization in order to answer basic questions. Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality with regard to patient and staff information. Ability to maintain a positive and professional demeanor toward residents, visitors, families and co-workers.
